Crimson Jazz places first at Super Jazz

The Murrieta Valley High School Crimson Jazz placed first in the High School Novice Big Band category at the Super Jazz at the Ranch Festival at West Ranch High School in Santa Clarita, CA on May 20, 2023.

This is the first time in many years the Crimson Jazz has participated in a dedicated jazz festival and director Brad Pulverenti was extremely pleased with the students’ performance. Pulverenti expounded, “The students worked hard throughout the year and had a stellar performance at Super Jazz. The recognition by the adjucators was icing on the cake.”

The ensemble demonstrated their versatility by playing a variety of jazz pieces including an arrangement of Charlie Parker’s “Now’s the Time” by Paul Murtha, Zachary Smith’s “Lil’ Hefty”, “Rumba Latina” by Victor Lopez and Ralph Ford’s arrangement of “Vehicle” by James Peterik a song made famous by the 1970’s rock band Ides of March.

MVHS Crimson Jazz is open to all students at Murrieta Valley High School who have an interest in stage musical performance beyond the classical concert setting.
